Christway Shekinah Church was established in 2018, beginning with just a few dedicated families united in faith and fellowship. From the outset, a decision was made to come under the spiritual authority of one of the prominent English churches in Hamilton. The minister of that English church became the Senior Minister, and Pastor Sajith Varghese was appointed as the Caretaker Minister of the church. During those early days, services were held in the evenings, and the community steadily grew in faith and unity.

However, the global COVID-19 pandemic brought unexpected challenges. The number of families attending the church decreased due to various personal and practical reasons. As a result, evening services at the church venue became unfeasible. In response, the church moved its gatherings to the home of one of the member families.

It was during these intimate home gatherings that the Holy Spirit stirred the hearts of the remaining members to pray in faith—for a new morning service venue and for a renewed increase in membership. In a miraculous turn of events, in 2021, a young man—whom none of the members had known previously—walked into one of the services and soon helped the church relocate to Vision College, which has since become our current place of worship. After attending a few services, the young man returned to his hometown. We believe he was sent by God as a destiny helper—a divine connection at just the right time.

Although the church now had a new venue, the number of members remained few. Undeterred, the church committed to regular fasting and prayer, trusting in God’s timing. Slowly but surely, the grace and mercy of the Lord began to manifest. New families started joining month after month, and the church was blessed with the resources to purchase musical equipment and launch its online ministry, expanding the church’s reach and impact.

By 2024, it became clear that the Lord was calling the church to a new season. As the congregation grew and new branches began emerging across New Zealand, the Holy Spirit gave a clear vision to formally register the church. In obedience to that divine leading, the church was officially registered in 2025 and named Christway Shekinah Church.
